Making art, for me, is a constant series of interrelated adventures. I allow myself complete freedom to explore the possibilities of the human experience through creative experimentation. Problem solving in the arts is a constant series of questions that seldom have single correct solutions; art problems can be subtle, ambiguous, and sometimes dilemma-like. Making art helps me embrace the intellectual, physical, emotional, and existential response to the world.
I believe that imagination is at the core of the arts and it is an amazing human trait. The arts provide the essential use and growth of the imagination. If we cannot imagine how others live, how can we look out a window to different cultures and learn to live peacefully with each other? How can we get rid of the fear of the different? If we cannot imagine a better world, how will we be able to move towards a better world? Authentic encounters with the arts have a unique power to release imagination.
